NEET Counselling
Medical Courses Available Through NEET-UG
Admission to MBBS and other allied medical courses in India is conducted through the NEET-UG, which serves as the single national-level entrance test for undergraduate medical education. Based on the NEET rank obtained by the student, candidates become eligible for admission not only to MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) and BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery), but also to various AYUSH courses such as BAMS (Ayurveda), BHMS (Homeopathy), and BUMS (Unani), along with BVSc & AH (Veterinary Sciences) and in some institutions even courses like B.Sc Nursing, BPT and other paramedical programs. The admission to all these professional medical courses is carried out strictly through a centralized counselling process conducted at both the All India and State levels, ensuring transparency and merit-based allocation of seats in government as well as private institutions across the country.
All India Quota (AIQ) Admission Process
The All India Quota, commonly known as AIQ, comprises 15% of the total seats available in Government Medical and Dental Colleges across India, excluding certain institutions where separate rules apply. The counselling for AIQ seats is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Through this process, eligible NEET (UG) qualified candidates can apply for admission to prestigious institutions such as AIIMS, JIPMER, Central Universities, and Government Medical Colleges located in all states. The AIQ counselling procedure begins with online registration and fee payment on the MCC portal, followed by choice filling and locking of preferred colleges and courses by the candidates. Based on the NEET (UG) rank, reservation category and availability of seats, the seat allotment results are declared in multiple rounds including Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round and Stray Vacancy Round. Candidates who are allotted seats must report to the respective institute for document verification and confirmation of admission within the stipulated time period.
Maharashtra State Quota Admission Process
In addition to AIQ seats, 85% of the total seats in Government, Private and Semi-Government Medical Colleges in Maharashtra are filled through the State Quota admission process conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra. This counselling procedure is specifically meant for candidates who fulfill the state eligibility criteria such as domicile requirements. The Maharashtra counselling process starts with online registration on the CET Cell portal followed by uploading of essential documents for scrutiny and physical document verification at designated centres. After successful verification, a state merit list is published on the basis of NEET scores, which becomes the foundation for further admission rounds. Students are then required to fill and lock their preferred college choices through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP). Seat allotment is conducted in successive rounds such as CAP Round 1, CAP Round 2, Mop-Up Round and Institutional Stray Vacancy Round. Candidates who receive an allotment must confirm their admission by reporting to the respective college and completing all formalities within the given deadline.
